In addition to giving the opening lecture at Haystack’s annual Art School’s Collaborative conference, NCAA’s Maria Molteni hosted a workshop for attending undergrads, grad students and their professors. Workshop description:
Maria Molteni and The New Craft Artists in Action integrate skills, materials and histories of sport and craft, encouraging positive relationships between artists, athletes and neighbors. Typically, they create hand made Net Works for empty basketball hoops around town, but there are many games that benefit from the audio-kinetic and aesthetic enhancement of hand crafted nets.
In this 3 hour workshop, Molteni will share some of the NCAA’s past projects, making nets nationally and internationally with young sports fans, queer collectives and art students alike. She will also demonstrate techniques for knitting and knotting that engage all parts of the body. This workshop will be a flexible and playful work session, but if you’re willing to go hard in the paint, we'll complete a functional volleyball net for future Haystack ballers to spike over.
